1kg Goldfish found in Perth river

Perth Fisherman Darrell Higginbottom reeled in a whopping 1kg goldfish from the Harvey River last week.

The fish was 32cm long, and was dubbed “Penelope Frankenfish” by Higginbottom.

The fisherman was trying to catch redfin perch when he spotted the goliath fish swimming past him slowly.

“I made an accurate cast just over its back and managed to jab it with the hook on the lure,” he told local news source Perth Now.

“It put up a fairly decent fight, better than expected.”

After catching the fish, he sent a photo of it to the Harvey River Restoration Taskforce, who posted the photo to their Facebook page.

Goldfish are an invasive species in the river and cause significant damage to the ecosystem, the taskforce said.
