31 more Australians safely evacuate Gaza

Foreign affairs officials say 31 more Australians safely left Gaza through the Rafah Crossing into Egypt early this morning, as more than 100 others wait to evacuate the war zone.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the Gaza Strip has reached 12,300, including 5,000 children, according to Gaza’s health authorities, since October 7.

A DFAT spokesperson says the government has now supported a total of 62 people to leave Gaza, including Australian citizens, permanent residents, and family members.

The ABC understands the Australian Embassy in Cairo has been providing those crossing into Egypt with short-term accommodation and return commercial flights back to Australia.

The government continues to support 130 people who remain in Gaza and want to leave, as more people register for further assistance.

The ABC also understands the government is assessing Australian links of new and existing people registered to leave Gaza, and vetting the status of them and family members.
