It is reported that millions of devices across the country will be affected due to the shutdown of all 3G networks in Australia in about a week’s time.
The shutdown of the 3G network, which has been a feature of Australia’s phone service coverage for decades, began late last year.
Accordingly, Vodafone became the first telecom company to disable the 3G network, while Telstra and Optus are scheduled to block services by the 28th.
Telstra was due to shut down 3G services on August 31 but moved the date to give customers time to update their devices.
It is not yet known exactly how many people will be affected by blocking the 3G network and according to an estimate made in the year 2023, it was revealed that the number of people using 3G services in Australia will be around 3 million.
The government has stated that around 740,000 4G phones will not be able to call emergency services by blocking these services.
It is also said that after the disconnection of the 3G network, coverage will decrease in rural areas that still do not have access to 4G or 5G.
The 3G network used to play a key role in mobile phone coverage across Australia, but it is now being blocked as the use of 3G services declines due to the arrival of newer devices with faster 4G and 5G services.
