Kids Alive Founder Laurie Lawrence warns pool safety at home is in a “bad state” following the report that 40 per cent of children miss water safety benchmarks.
Mr Lawrence’s comments follow an urgent message to parents to be aware of pool safety during the upcoming summer holiday season.
A new report reveals families are less vigilant of water safety while travelling and a staggering one in five families reports a pool-related emergency with 87 per cent of these incidents involving children.
“We want anyone who owns a pool across Australia to check their pool gate this month,” Mr Lawrence told Sky News Australia.
“Make sure you’ve got the right latches … all those sorts of things you have to have by law.”
