Migrant strain on Australian capital cities

Melbourne and inner Sydney are the most popular areas for new migrants according to the latest data.

Figures from the Institute of Public Affairs show 29 per cent of arrivals between the 2021 and 2023 financial years moved to greater Sydney.

Melbourne was the second most popular destination for migrant newcomers in this period, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The Australian Population Research Institute says these figures are driven by student numbers, which influence rental markets.
