Most Australian teenage girls have experienced cyberbullying, study finds

Most Australian teenage girls have experienced cyberbullying and it’s having an impact on their self-esteem.

Queensland researchers said A staggering 98 per cent of teenage girls have been bullied online, according to a new survey.

The University of the Sunshine Coast study focused on 336 Australian girls aged between 14 and 19.

Researchers found 62 per cent of those girls were teased or insulted about their body weight, shape or physical features online.

“How they can support themselves and support their friends who may be experiencing these negative instances online,” Prince said.

“There’s also room for more strict guidelines for what young people can engage with on social media.”
