Aussie city were residents spend more time in traffic

Melbourne has won the unenviable title Australia’s most congested city with motorists spending close to 100 hours stuck in traffic.

It will take motorists about 21 minutes to drive 10 kilometres, which costs Melbourne drivers $205 of petrol each year, equating to 247 kilograms of pollution emitted.

Residents spend on average 205 hours on the roads each year, with 92 of those hours stuck in heavy traffic and congestion.

The numbers were crunched by Novated Lease Australia with data from TomTom, which ranked the country’s most congested metropolitan areas.

In second place was Sydney where drivers clocked up 203 hours on the road, with 83 of those hours in heavy traffic.

However it take drivers in the harbour city slightly longer than Melbourne to travel 10 kilometres, with 22 minutes spent on the journey.
