World’s top 10 ‘best’ countries to live

The latest ‘Best Countries Ranking’ from US News and Word Report, carried out in partnership with the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania has been published.

Nearly 17,000 people from 90 nations were canvassed in a survey aimed at measuring a nation’s worth beyond hard facts and figures.

1. Switzerland

The landlocked small nation of Switzerland is ranked best country in the world, on the back of long-standing stability and a powerful economy.

The country’s strong economy is powered by low corporate tax rates, a highly developed service sector led by financial services. Switzerland is ranked number two in the open for business category.

2. Japan

The country with the third-largest economy in the world, Japan has rebounded from natural disasters and business downturns.

Its centuries-old culture and many UNESCO World Heritage sites earned it fifth spot for cultural influence.

3. United States

With the world’s largest economy and military, it’s no surprise the United States ranks top for power and entrepreneurship.

The country is also in top spot for meeting and adapting to major changes.

4. Canada

Canada has a longstanding policy of multiculturalism and recognition of Indigenous peoples.

The North American nation is ranked number three in the world for providing its citizens social purpose.

5. Australia

With its long hot summers, stunning beaches and varied landscapes, Australia has long been regarded as a lifestyle superpower.

But the country’s ingrained resilience also earned it an 88 per cent for successfully responding and adapting to major changes.

6. Sweden

Sweden’s long-standing commitment to human right earned it scores of more than 99 per cent for social purpose and quality of life.
