Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan announces new cabinet

Newly minted Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has unveiled her cabinet less than a week after taking the state’s top job.

Ms Allan was sworn in as Victoria’s 49th premier on Wednesday last week, a day after Daniel Andrews surprised colleagues and the state by announcing his sudden resignation.

On Monday, Ms Allan announced Deputy Premier Ben Carroll — who last week sought to challenge her for the party leadership — as the Minister for Education as well as for Medical Research.

Tim Pallas has retained his position as Treasurer and Minister for Industrial Relations, while taking on the role as Minister for Economic Growth.

The premier handed her previous portfolios of Transport Infrastructure and the Suburban Rail Loop to Danny Pearson, who will also remain as Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Worksafe and the TAC (Transport Accident Commission).

The ministry will feature one new face, with Member for Eltham Vicki Ward to join cabinet as Minister for Prevention of Family Violence and Minister for Employment.

Several key portfolios, including planning, police and health have remained unchanged.
