Young people don’t have ‘any idea’ about risks of drug use

Brain and Mind Centre Co-Director Professor Ian Hickie says young people don’t have “any idea” about the risks of drug use and what they are taking without pill testing.

Prof Hickie outlines the importance of pill testing in its ability for people to “find out” what they are taking instead of going in blind.

“Many people think they know what they’ve got access to but really, they don’t have any idea,” said Prof Hickie.

This comes as two men in their 20s died due to suspected drug overdoses after attending separate music festivals in Sydney on the weekend.

“Rather than putting the emphasis on policing, we’ve got to put the emphasis on better information – younger people being better informed.”
