Recall for two camembert cheese products

Wheels of cheese are being stripped from shelves in major supermarkets across the country over listeria fears.

Snowbrand Australia, which trades as Unicorn Cheese, has issued an urgent recall for its 125g wheels of Unicorn Classic Camembert and Community Co French Style Camembert.

The products have been for sale in Woolworths stores in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Tasmania, as well as IGA stores in Victoria and Queensland.

They have also been available at other retailers including Natures Best, V&C Food Distributors and Bills Cheese and Yoghurts in NSW, and Our United Food Co in Queensland.

Food Standards Australia and New Zealand said the recall was actioned due to potential listeria contamination.

The food safety watchdog warned listeria can cause illness for people who have weakened immune systems.

“Listeria may cause illness in pregnant women and their unborn babies, the elderly and people with low immune systems,” a recall notice read on Sunday.

The affected products carry the best before date of November 8, 2023, and the batch code 123123E Est No 287.

Customers who are concerned about their health are urged to seek medical advice and should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.
