Victoria has not yet paid $380 million in compensation for cancelling the Commonwealth Games

Victoria has not yet paid $380 million in compensation for cancelling the 2026 Commonwealth Games because of tax concerns in the United Kingdom.

The Commonwealth Games Federation in the United Kingdom wants to sort out exactly how much British tax the organisation would have to pay on receiving the compensation fee from the Victorian government.

Due to the roadblock, that fee has not yet been paid although it was agreed to by former Victorian premier Daniel Andrews back in August.

The compensation fee will potentially go towards a new host for the games.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate has expressed interest in saving the Commonwealth Games and hosting in 2026.
