Ben Carroll declares ‘full review’ underway after series of VCE exam mistakes

Ben Carroll has expressed his disappointment in the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority after a series of “stuff-ups” in this year’s VCE exams.

The Victorian Deputy Premier and Education Minister told reporters on Monday a “full review” is being carried out into how multiple mistakes occurred.

Last week, six students were provided with the wrong Chinese Language exam, which followed on from several errors being identified in maths papers.

Mr Carroll said it was incumbent on authorities not to pile further stress onto Year 12 students completing their final exams by giving them incorrect papers.

“It’s traumatic getting the wrong exam… and that also places undue stress on them. We want students to be well prepared,” he said.

Mr Carroll said the mix up between the Chinese Second Language Advanced and general Chinese Second Language paper has since being “rectified”.

“I want to reassure those six students and their families they will not be impacted by this. They’ll get the proper exam and I understand that’s already in place now,” he said.

The Chinese Second Language Advanced exam was held on November 6, with the general paper scheduled for this Wednesday afternoon.

In recent days, reports have emerged indicating details of the general paper were leaked online following the distribution of the incorrect exam paper.

However, students given the wrong test were reportedly made to sign nondisclosure agreements.
