Primary school children feel more anxious than five years ago

New data reveals primary school-aged children feel more anxious and lonelier than they did five years ago.

The Australian Council of Educational Research conducted a survey among Australia’s primary and secondary students.

The survey of 500,000 students from 2018 and 2023 shows children are more stressed.

This comes despite efforts to improve youth resilience and wellbeing.

Experts are calling for a national action plan to address the issue, arguing the social-emotional capacity of young people needs to be fostered to help them better cope with challenges.
