US does Australia ‘tremendous favour’ with nuclear submarines

Liberal Senator Dave Sharma says the United States has just done Australia a “tremendous favour” by sharing nuclear submarine technology with Australia.

“Congress has just approved Australia going and basically taking three Virginia class nuclear submarines off US production lines and taking them for our own use,” he told Sky News Australia.

Mr Sharma called this a “hugely important gesture” in support of Australia and the “alignment of our interest with the United States”.

“The US has just done us a tremendous favour, which is in our national interest and also in theirs,” he said.

“I think we should be keeping that in mind when they ask us to do our bit to provide global security around the world.”
