Weather stations across eastern Australia have defied persistent talk of a drier El Nino.
Recent data has revealed a wetter-than-average 2023 for many parts of Australia.
Rainfall statistics from 203 Bureau of Meteorology weather stations show 76 recorded an average or wetter than average 2023 statistics.
Over two-thirds of centres recorded at least 80 per cent of their average rainfall and 188 centres recorded more than 60 per cent.
Four centres recorded less than half their average – including Carnarvon in Western Australia which received just 25 per cent of average rainfall.
