A woman is fighting for life and three others are in hospital after a series of stabbing attacks across inner Melbourne.
A 31-year-old man has been arrested over the stabbings, which occurred across Melbourne’s CBD, St Kilda East and St Kilda over a three-hour period overnight.
Police said the three separate attacks were random and have ruled out terrorism as a motive.
The attacks allegedly began at a King Street burger store at around 10pm yesterday, when a 24-year-old was stabbed and then taken to hospital with a non-life-threatening leg injury.
Police said the offender then made his way to Dandenong Road, in St Kilda East just before 11pm, where a man and a woman, both aged 31, were stabbed, leaving the woman with life-threatening injuries.
The man was taken to hospital with a serious arm injury.
A 31-year-old Melton man was arrested by police after a short foot chase around 1.30am today in South Yarra.
Police said there was no further danger to the public, with the alleged offender now in custody.
Detectives are also determining whether a stabbing in Southbank may be linked to the man.
A 28-year-old man was stabbed while walking along City Road, near Kings Way, about 9.20pm.
The Mount Waverley man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his leg and torso.Police are investigating and have asked any witnesses to come forward.
