A consumer protection law firm has decided to take legal action against Coles and Woolworths supermarkets regarding misleading discounts.
The law firm points out that on average, a customer who was misled by the two merchants’ discounts is entitled to a refund of up to $1,300.
The two supermarkets have been sued in federal court by the law firm of Gerard Malouf and Partners (GMP Law), alleging that they promoted misleading discounts on hundreds of products.
It is stated that this case has been filed in relation to the fake discounts that were made between February 2022 and May 2023 at Coles Company and between September 2021 and May 2023 at Woolworths Company.
The company noted that the average Australian consumer could be eligible for a cashback of between $200 and $1300 based on purchases made with these discounts.
