Air New Zealand plane landed at Sydney over ‘security incident’

An Air New Zealand flight has made an emergency landing at Sydney Airport due to security reasons.

The plane that landed this evening was parked at Sydney Airport and it is said that an undisclosed security threat has caused this incident.

Flight NZ-247 arrived from Wellington at around 5.40pm and emergency services, ambulances and firefighters were called to the scene.

It is reported that within an hour the emergency services were cleared and the plane headed towards the passenger terminal.

The flight carrying crew and 154 passengers was scheduled to land in Sydney and it is said that there was no emergency landing situation.

Air New Zealand confirmed it was aware of the incident involving a security threat.

Captain David Morgan, the chief operating officer of the airline, said that they are working with the relevant agencies and are following standard procedures for security-related incidents.
