Albanese government assesses Israel evacuation plans

The Albanese government is considering evacuation flights to rescue Australians stranded in Israel if it’s necessary following the outbreak of war with Hamas.

This comes after a Sydney-born grandmother was identified as the first Australian killed in the Hamas attacks.

There are more than 10,000 Australians who live in Israel.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong confirmed in a statement that the Albanese government is assessing “all options” for Australians wanting to leave Israel.

“We understand the difficulties with limited commercial options. If you want to leave and don’t have a viable option, we encourage you to pursue that,” the statement continued.
