Albanese government to release data on the gender pay gap

The federal government is set to release data on the gender pay gap in companies with more than 100 employees in February.

Albanese’s government passed new gender parity legislation in early 2023.

The government estimates closing the gap, which currently stands at 13 per cent, will take 26 years at current rates.

Measures to close the gender pay gap by the government include cheaper child care, improving workplace safety for women and extending paid parental leave to 26 weeks.

The release of data is aimed at making employers more transparent and pushing companies to act where there is a greater disparity.
