Aussie city was named third for the best street art in the world

Melbourne, of course.

Every Victorian knows that Melbourne’s street art scene is world class. AC/DC Lane and Rankins Lane have become synonymous with the capital city. But it doesn’t stop there.

You can see vibrant street art throughout the city, in narrow laneways and hidden spots throughout the suburb.

Now, Melbourne has been officially recognised for its idiosyncratic art after a new study named it third best city for street art in the world.

The study gathered data from 132 cities from across the globe to rank the top 20 cities. Metrics cities were measured against include the number of murals, social media data,  the number of articles with city and street art mentioned, online engagement and how often it was searched on Google annually.

While Melbourne didn’t take the crown, it did place ahead of European cities that are famous for their art scene, including Berlin and Amsterdam, which is a mighty effort by the Victorian capital. Melbourne wasn’t the only Aussie city to make the top ten, Sydney came in eight and Brisbane took out 15th.

Of course, our Aussie capitals were in good company. Here is the full list of the top 20 cities for street art in the world:
