Aussies at risk warned to get mpox jab as cases surge

At-risk Australians are being warned to get the mpox jab as a matter of urgency as cases surge in NSW

Men who have sex with men, sex workers and their sexual partners are being offered two free doses of the MPOX vaccine to combat the rate of hospitalisations.

NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said the state has experienced the largest mpox outbreak since 2022, with 433 cases recorded since June this year.

A huge 46 per cent of these cases were people who were not vaccinated.

“The rapidly rising numbers of mpox cases detected across the state are very concerning, with 26 people requiring hospitalisation due to the severity of their symptoms,” Chant said.
