Australia Post set to scrap daily letter deliveries

Daily letter deliveries are set to become a thing of the past as the federal government attempts to stem Australia Post’s 200 million dollars in losses.

Under the changes, parcels will still be delivered daily, but letters would be limited to every second or third day.

It comes as the average household now receives 2.2 addressed letters a week – down from 8.5 a week in 2008.

The Albanese government says it is committed to keeping Australia Post publicly owned but that it needed to be sustainable.

This comes as parcel volumes continue to grow, despite retailers expecting a quieter Christmas this year amid record Black Friday sales.
