Australians are staying away from alcohol as the festive season begins, new research has revealed.
62 per cent of Australians aged 25 and over said they had given up alcohol this year.
That said, most Australians specifically refer to low or zero alcohol consumption.
Commentators say that the news that Australians abstained from alcohol is a more positive situation in a background where the price of alcohol rises significantly among Australians during the festive season.
35 percent of people will have stopped drinking alcohol by this time in 2021, and 51 percent are predicted to switch to low or zero alcohol consumption this year.
The study was conducted by DrinkWise, whose CEO stated that 53 percent of survey participants will stop drinking this summer.
