Australia’s birth rate is at a record low

Australia’s birth rate has fallen to an all-time low in 17 years.

It is stated that the number of births in Australia for the year 2023 is 286,998, which is a decrease of 4.6 percent compared to the last year 2022.

And it is considered to be the lowest value recorded after 2006.

In 2004, Peter Costello, who was in office at the time, asked Australians to have more children, but they have not paid attention to it.

According to new data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the current birth rate in Australia has decreased to 1.5 births per woman.

In Australia, a rate of 2.1 births per woman is required to maintain a natural population balance without taking immigration into account.

The last time the birth rate per woman was above 2.0 was in 2008.

The states with the highest birth rates were Western Australia and Tasmania, with 553 and 69 more babies born respectively than the previous year.

Meanwhile, Treasurer Jim Chalmers, a father of three, said Labor was aware of the financial problems Australians faced due to children.
