Christmas food hits supermarket shelves in August

Forget Christmas in July, supermarkets are now pushing Christmas in August as festive food is already creeping onto shelves.

Coles and Woolworths have launched their Christmas range, with more products expected to be on the shelves next week.

“Our team are so excited to get into the Christmas spirit a little bit early,” Coles spokesperson Martine Alpins said.

“People really like to often try things before Christmas Day and a lot of our customers also like to budget and spread the cost of Christmas before Christmas arrives.”

Woolworths will have Christmas favourites on shelves from Wednesday.

Everyday Rewards general manager Glenn Baker said people often stocked up their rewards points to cash in over the festive season.

“Last year the average member on it got $100 off their shop at Christmas,” Baker said.

“We are expecting to have that much more money per member and more members this Christmas coming.”

ALDI is yet to release its 2023 Christmas line.
