Climate protests to cause traffic delays in Melbourne’s CBD until weekend

Climate protestors have frustrated commuters by causing traffic chaos in Melbourne’s CBD and it’s expected to continue until the weekend.

The Extinction Rebellion group slowly moved through Melbourne in a protest on foot between 7am and 8am, with the intention of “disrupting the city” to raise the alarm about the current “climate emergency”.

The disruptions are planned at peak hour traffic times during the morning and afternoon from today until Saturday.

It is a similar style to the Just Stop Oil protests that recently occurred in the UK.

It’s believed the group is planning to burn a large koala in front of a Labor MP’s office later today.

That is expected to cause further disruptions around Sydney Road and on Bell Street, with more than 100 people expected to take part.

The group wanted to highlight the issues they had with the UN climate talks.
