Court issues interim order against Arjuna Ranatunga’s Cricket Committee

The Court of Appeal has issued a restraining order against the Gazette issued by the Sports Minister on the appointment of an interim committee for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

The court order has been issued after taking up for hearing a petition filed by SLC President Shammi Silva challenging the Gazette notification.

“Appeal Court issues a stay order suspending for 14 days the functions of the Sri Lanka Cricket Interim Committe headed by Arjuna Ranatunga & the relevant Gazette by Sports Minister appointing them” Ada Derana reported.

A Gazette was issued by the Sports Minister yesterday announcing the appointment of the interim committee for SLC.

It was soon reported that President Ranil Wickremesinghe was unaware of Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe’s decision to appoint an interim committee for Sri Lanka Cricket.

The matter was taken up at yesterday’s Cabinet meeting chaired by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

During the meeting, the President and Cabinet appointed a 4-member ministerial committee to investigate the future activities of Sri Lanka Cricket and the gazette notification issued on SLC by the Sports Minister.
