December inflation data could fall ‘as low as 3.3 per cent’

AMP Chief Economist Shane Oliver says annual inflation data for December could possibly fall “as low as 3.3 per cent”.

His remarks come after the annual rate of inflation fell to its lowest level in two years.

The annual CPI fell to 4.3 per cent from 4.9 per cent in November.

“The likelihood is when we get the next update for December, we’ll see inflation in the 3’s – possibly as low as 3.3 per cent,” Mr Oliver told Sky News Australia.

“So I think things are clearly going in the right direction here.”
