‘Dodgy carbonara’ leads man to discover $1.2 million lottery win

New South Wales man discovered he had won a $1.2 million lottery prize after a “dodgy carbonara” kept him up all night.

The man lay awake at his Berkley Vale home in the Central Coast when he used the time to check his entry for Saturday’s Lotto draw.

To his surprise, he realised he held a winning division one entry.

”Saturday night wasn’t a fun one for anyone in my home,” he said.

“A dodgy carbonara had me feeling very unwell and unable to sleep all night, so just after midnight I gave up on sleep and decided to check my entry.

“Well, I felt better immediately.

“The adrenaline started pumping and sleep was forgotten after that. I woke up my partner and we both just sat in shock for a little while.”

The man said the win was “unbelievable” and already had plans for how he would use his winnings.

“I’ve never bought a house so that’s my first priority,” he said.

“Following that, I’ll just set us up for the future and enjoy this moment.

“It’s surreal.”

The man was one of four winning entries last week, with three in New South Wales and one in Queensland.

The winning numbers in Saturday Lotto draw 4433 were 41, 33, 40, 39, 8 and 37, while the supplementary numbers were 35 and 2.

In the 2023-24 financial year so far, there have now been 220 Lotto winners across the nation with 76 of those in New South Wales.

And in 2023, there were 176 lucky Australians who became instant millionaires.
