EC orders to remove candidate stickers on vehicles immediately

Sri Lanka Election Commission has ordered the immediate removal of all stickers promoting presidential candidates from vehicles, stating that it is an offense under Section 74 of the Presidential Elections Act No. 15 of 1981.

The Election commission noted that complaints have been received regarding the display of signs, stickers with photos, flags, and other promotional materials for presidential candidates and parties on private vehicles, including private buses and three-wheelers.

The Election Commission has instructed the police to conduct emergency inspections across all police jurisdictions to remove these stickers.

The Commission has ordered the immediate removal of all such signage and stickers from motor vehicles. Additionally, instructions have been issued to Police Stations nationwide to enforce the removal of these stickers.

Meanwhile, the EC held a meeting with all candidates and their representatives, as well as with election observers yesterday (9).

During the meeting, some candidates used the opportunity to express their concerns to the Commission regarding the use of State resources and the conduct of certain media institutions.

Additionally, the Commission convened a separate session with election observers in the afternoon.
