Qantas engineers at every major airport in Australia have decided to strike during peak hours today.
Hundreds of engineers at major airports have been on strike for a third day, threatening to disrupt peak-hour flights across Australia.
This series of strikes is being implemented due to the failure of the two parties to reach a solution regarding the wage issue which has been under discussion since April.
About 600 maintenance engineers are planning two four-hour strikes at major airports in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart.
However, Qantas insists the strikes are unlikely to affect or delay flights.
Engineers on strike are responsible for key services such as carrying out final safety checks and escorting aircraft to the runway before an aircraft takes off from an airport.
With the strike at Melbourne and Brisbane airports last Wednesday, it is reported that there is an escalation of strikes across Australia.
The demand of the striking workers is to give a five percent salary increase per year starting with a 15 percent salary increase this year to compensate for the lack of salary increase for the past 4 years.
