Thousands of popular Ford utes have been recalled due to a safety issue.
The Australian Department of Transport has issued a recall for 4,841 Ford Rangers and Everest models from 2021 – 2023 because the cars could come to a sudden stop when travelling at slow speeds.
“Due to a software issue, under certain circumstances if the battery level drops below a critical threshold, the transmission may shift into Park when the vehicle is travelling at speeds below 6km/h,” Vehicle Recalls said in a statement.
“This may cause a sudden stop without the rear brake lamps illuminating as intended.”
The defect has the potential to cause rear-end car accidents, Vehicle Recalls has warned.
A Ford Authorised Dealership will fix all affected cars free of charge.
Customers who own these affected models will be contacted by the company directly.
