Victorian Premier Jacinta Allen and the opposition have rejected the proposal to trial a four-day work week for public school teachers.
A survey of 8000 members of the Australian Education Association by Monash University found that only 30 per cent of teachers work until retirement age.
Accordingly, Monash University has submitted a report to the government with nine recommendations, including a four-day work week for school staff, salary increases and class size reduction.
The reports revealed that the teacher vacancy rate in the state of Victoria has now risen to about 2500.
But both sides of Parliament emphasized that they are not concerned about the proposal and the state premier emphasized that there is no plan for a four-day work week in schools.
Opposition Education Spokesman Jess Wilson has stated that reducing the number of classrooms and the number of days of education will not solve the problem because there are not enough teachers.
