Funeral of slain Sri Lankan family to be held at Ottawa Buddhist temple

The last rites of the six Sri Lankans, including a woman and her four children, who were murdered in Ottawa, Canada, inside their home, are to be performed by the local Buddhist temple having received permission from the husband and father of the four children, Dhanushka Wickramasinghe who is undergoing treatment in hospital.

Accordingly, the last rights of Darshanee Ekanayake and her four children and of Gamini Amarakoon, with the consent of his family members, will be carried out after the post-mortem examination is completed, by the local Buddhist temple. The Buddhist Congress of Canada has also set up a fund to conduct the funeral of the deceased.

Six Sri Lankan nationals, including five members of the same family and a 40-year-old family acquaintance, were brutally murdered in their house in Barrhaven, a suburb of Ottawa, Canada, last Wednesday (6) night by Febrio de Zoysa, a 19-year-old youth who was a resident of the same house.

Ven. Mahagama Suneetha Thera of the local Buddhist temple said that the 19-year-old suspect has been showing suicidal tendencies before carrying out the multiple murders.
