Gmail and Yahoo users warned as ‘mystery’ email arrives in inboxes

Scammers are back and this time they are using the popular Shein online shopping brand to try and trick people into handing over personal details.

The latest message, which has begun landing in inboxes, uses the tactic of intrigue to get people clicking on dangerous links. Once opened, the email suggests users have been selected to receive a “mystery SHIEN box!” which sounds pretty enticing.

Of course, there is no prize with those fooled simply giving details such as user names, passwords and even bank account information over to the online crooks.

The message began circulating late last month and it’s wise to be on alert if you get anything similar landing in your inbox.

According to Action Fraud UK, there have been more than 7,900 reports of scam emails offering free ‘mystery boxes’ so it’s clearly proving a popular way for scammers to attack consumers.

A similar type of email was also spotted by the team at Which? with shoppers receiving a message that claimed they could also win a ‘Shein Mystery Box!” by taking part in a quick online survey.

“The links in these emails lead to malicious phishing websites where scammers attempt to steal your personal and financial information,” Which? explained.
