Govt’s wage efforts ‘bearing fruit’ in latest analysis

Treasurer Jim Chalmers says the government’s efforts toward improving Australian wages are “bearing fruit” after the latest wage growth analysis.

The Treasury analysis revealed wages growth is at its fasted annual pace in 15 years.

“What these figures from the Treasury show today is that our efforts on the minimum wage or when it comes to wages in the care economy, are bearing fruit,” Mr Chalmers told Sky News Australia.

“What’s perhaps most encouraging about this new Treasury analysis is that there is more growth in the lower income parts of the income ladder.

“So overall wages were growing about four per cent in this period, but substantially higher than that for the first two runs of the income ladder – that’s a good thing.”
