Hundreds of firefighters are battling a wildfire in north Perth

A firefighter is in hospital as an emergency bushfire continues to burn in Perth’s north.
His 60-year-old volunteer was at the scene of the fire near Wedge Island, about 150km north of the city, when he was injured.

Yesterday afternoon he was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital in a stable condition.

Another firefighter was treated at the scene for minor injuries

The fire started with a fatal crash on Monday and has since burned 42,000 hectares.

The fire is moving west toward the small town of Cervantes.
