Hunter Valley bus driver facing 26 additional charges

The bus driver who allegedly killed 10 people after a catastrophic bus crash in the Hunter Valley region last year is facing 26 new charges.

Brett Button will find out whether he is charged with manslaughter in his hearing on Wednesday.

Button is currently on bail for 63 charges after allegedly losing control of a bus carrying wedding guests on June 11 and will appear before Newcastle Local Court on January 17.

The 59-year-old will reportedly face a total of 89 charges if police prosecutors charge him with the additional offences.

It is understood the new charges include 10 counts of manslaughter and 16 counts of driving furiously occasioning actual bodily harm.

Ten people were killed in the accident and 25 were injured as they were returning to their accommodation in Singleton after a wedding at Lovedale’s Wandin Estate.

The bus was travelling near the Hunter Expressway at Greta when it flipped and rolled.

The tragedy is one of the country’s worst road accidents.

Button lives with his family on strict bail conditions.
