Legislation has been enacted to provide special protection to prevent the closure of venues such as nightclubs and restaurants that provide live music around Sydney.
It is stated that the government will have the opportunity to intervene to stop the closure of a live music venue under the new legislation to support nightlife in New South Wales.
The reforms were passed in the state parliament last week and will be the world’s first safety legislation to ensure that venues including popular and historic restaurants do not close.
The new rules will prevent the closure of popular venues such as the Annandale Hotel and The Basement in Sydney.
It also includes laws that allow an establishment to choose other locations if its existence is threatened by noise complaints, nuisance from neighbors or pressure from landlords.
Minister for Music and Nightlife Economic Affairs John Graham stated that the government’s aim is to create an environment where the music-loving community can enjoy live music without spending hundreds of dollars.
