A trial of illegal drug testing is planned at Victoria’s major music festival Beyond The Valley.
The plan is to introduce drug testing at festivals to help prevent overdoses of drugs, including alcohol.
Beyond The Valley will be the first time that drug testing has been trialled in Victoria as part of an effort to prevent overdoses.
Premier Jacinta Allen said the festival, which will run until the start of the new year, will be the first of 10 venues to introduce drug testing.
More than 35,000 people are expected to attend the four-day festival in Geelong from December 28 to January 1.
The festival is set to be the largest ever to introduce the drug testing program.
Prime Minister Jacinta Allen said this is a life-saving measure and no medicine is safe.
The service uses world-leading technology to test tablets, capsules, powders or liquids and identify harmful chemicals that can cause death.
