Melbourne student dies suddenly on Qantas flight to India

The community has rallied around the family of a young woman who died during take off on a flight from Australia to India.

More than $30,000 has been raised to support the family of 24-year-old student, Australia Post employee and aspiring chef Manpreet Kaur.

Ms Kaur was flying to Delhi on June 20 to visit her family in India for the first time since moving to Melbourne in 2020 when she collapsed and died.

An investigation by the coroner is underway but the suspected cause of death was tuberculosis.

Fundraiser launched

Gurdip Singh Grewal, a friend of Ms Kaur, launched a GoFundMe for the “beloved student from our village” on June 27.

“Our dear friend Manpreet left us too soon, leaving a void in our lives that can never be filled,” he said.

“As we grieve her passing, we want to come together to honour her memory and support her family in their time of need.

“As we say our final goodbyes, every contribution, big or small, brings us closer to our goal. Your support means the world to us and Manpreet’s family.”
