Nearly 30 former MPs are yet to vacate their official residences

It has been reported that nearly 30 former Members of Parliament (MPs) are yet to hand over their official residences.

Parliamentary sources have stated that certain former MPs are presently in the process of removing their belonging from the houses.

Former parliamentarians had been informed to vacate their official residences, as they need to be handed over to new MPs.

Accordingly, it is reported that seven former Members of Parliament had vacated their official residences day before yesterday (22).

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera had recently informed the ex-MPs in writing that if they do not vacate their respective houses, the water and electricity supplied to those houses will be disconnected.

However, a parliamentary spokesperson stated that the houses are currently being renovated to provide official residences to new MPs.

It is also stated that the new MPs will be given official residences in the Madiwela Housing Complex on December 03.

Meanwhile, around 35 MPs have already submitted requests to obtain houses from the Madiwela Housing Complex.

The Parliament had previously issued a notice to newly elected MPs in need of housing to submit applications for the same.

MPs whose homes are located more than 40 kilometers away from the Parliament complex can make requests for official residences at the Madiwela Housing Complex.
