Australians doing it tough could receive new cost of living help before the budget in May.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese began the new year by tasking the Treasury and the Department of Finance with developing a wish list of cost of living measures.
These measures are expected to be put forward for consideration in the May budget.
However, the May budget is four months away and Australians are calling for greater assistance even sooner.
Mr Albanese has now claimed new cost of living measures to take some of the strain off households remains a live option between now and the budget.
