Sydneysiders have a new route to Europe from today with the first Turkish Airlines arriving at Sydney Airport this afternoon.
The airline will carry thousands of passengers from Sydney to Istanbul on four flights a week.
Turkish Airlines flights will also create 68,620 seats to Sydney, which is expected to generate $53 million for the visitor economy.
The airline’s presence at Sydney Airport will also create 290 jobs
Premier Chris Minns said the airline was opening a new destination for Australians looking to book overseas travel and visitors looking to see what our incredible state has to offer.
Scott Charlton, chief executive of Sydney Airports, said arrivals at Turkey Airport, Sydney was voted the world’s top destination for a reason, stressing its importance, Sydney’s role as a global aviation gateway and “their inaugural non-stop services in the coming years”. “We are delighted that Sydney has been chosen to host,” he said.
The first flight is scheduled to reach the tarmac today at 4 pm.
