Northern Territory government announces tough new alcohol laws

Darwin bottle shops won’t be allowed to open until midday under tough new alcohol laws announced by the territory government.

This comes amid a dramatic rise in both crime rates and anti-social behaviour across the Northern Territory with the issue becoming commonplace in Darwin.

The government announced the significant changes late yesterday, which also include security guards who are stationed at bottle shops being given the power to carry capsicum spray.

Chief Minister Natasha Fyles said the crackdown is necessary.

“These are not easy decisions to make but these are decisions that we need to make to keep our community safe,” she said.
