According to the results of the 2024 parliamentary general election, the National People’s Power has managed to win the majority power in the parliament.
They have so far won 123 MP seats with 6,842,223 votes as per the declared results.
National People’s Power has won 61.73 percent of the announced results.
Samagi Jana Balawegaya has got 31 seats and they have got 1,966,875 votes.
According to the results announced so far, the New Democratic Party has got 3 seats and they have got 493,359 votes.
In addition, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has got 2 seats and the Ilankei Tamil Arasu Party has got 3 seats.
Meanwhile, according to the results announced so far in the 2024 general election, it is reported that several former ministers have not been able to get a parliamentary seat.
Former Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, former ministers Ramesh Pathirana and Manusha Nanayakkara who represented Galle district have also lost their parliamentary mandates due to their inability to win a seat.
Like former minister Kanchana Wijesekera, former state minister Shashindra Rajapaksa has also been defeated in this year’s general election.
Nipuna Ranawaka, SM Chandrasena, Duminda Dissanayake, Ajith Rajapaksa, Pramita Bandara, Rohana Dissanayake, Dilum Amunugama, Roshan Ranasinghe, Sanjeeva Edirimanna, Ranjith Siambalapitiya, Nimal Lanza, Arundika Fernando, Tharaka Balasuriya, Anura Priyadarshana, Premalal Jayasekara, Pavitra Vanna Sir, Indika Anuruddha and Johnston Fernando also belong to the group who lost their seats.
