NSW Warning as hospitals battle scabies outbreak

Aussie hospitals are battling an outbreak, and are tracing patients and ringing close contacts who may be at risk of the ancient disease.

So far, 11 patients and 23 hospital staff have been diagnosed.

Mains warned there may be more cases of scabies in the community as the disease has an incubation period of up to six to eight weeks and can initially go undetected.

Scabies is a skin condition caused by tiny mites called sarcoptes scabiei.
