The Northern Territory government has planned to transfer a large number of prisoners under an emergency plan due to the record number of prisoners.
It is said that this emergency response has been announced to manage the risks posed by the rapidly growing prison population in the area.
The United Labor Union, which represents prison guards, has also stated that it is considering taking professional action in response to overcrowding in prisons.
It is said that due to this congestion, a large number of prisoners are also detained in various police guard houses.
The authorities have taken this step due to the risk that a dangerous riot situation may arise due to the increase in the number of detainees.
In a statement, the Prisons Department said the continued increase in the number of prisoners in the Northern Territory reached 2,370 as of Friday.
To reduce this pressure, the department noted that inmates held at Palmerston, Katherine and Alice Springs police guardhouses are being transferred to rehabilitation centers in Darwin and Alice Springs.
